That's right... we are disassembling our comfortable lives at home, only to reassemble a distorted version of life in the desert... without running water. Without heat. Without creature comforts of cozy beds and soft places to sit. Without electronics of any kind. Hahaha! Oh sure.. just try telling the kiddos they can't bring their video games, ipods and whatnot. I even heard from my mother that she is bringing her laptop.. her laptop in the desert... hmmm! I don't mind giving up electronics one bit... it's the lack of showers that wears me down in little time, especially on the day that the kiddos will want to roll themselves down the giant sand dune - resulting in a gritty nightmare that I refer to as "The Snickerdoodle Effect" think about it... let it sink in... yuck, right? I cannot fathom why they want to end up with red sand in unhappy places, but that's why I am the mom and the are the carefree kidlets! Better them than me, I say!
Mom and Dad are coming with us this year so camping will have a different dynamic to it, and we are excited to share our red desert trip with them! I haven't been camping in Southern Utah with Mom and Dad since I was a young girl.. I hope they can tolerate our sillyness and our need for four-wheeling adventures. I am making it my goal to get Mom on one of the Hondas.. stay tuned for pictures!
Today we have to scramble to get everything ready to head out in the morning. We are lucky that Hubby's dad comes to house-sit for us while we are gone, especially since last year some unsavory thugs targeted our house for theft when they saw us preparing to leave on a camping trip. The jerks may have gotten away with my wallet, but they did not break into the house as they intended, all thanks to my father-in-law scaring them off! Wish us luck and warm weather while we're gone. We will surely have wonderful pictures and stories to tell upon our return!
And for those of you that are my Facebook friends, there are lots more Moab pictures to be found in my facebook photo gallery. I'm excited to add more this week!
Ah yes, the giant sand hill mountain in S. Utah. I spent my share of hours on those things as a kid. Didn't need an iPod or a DS or any of that nonsense either. What a great idea.
